DON'T listen to what others may say.
Money can buy happiness, especially if you are a home theatre nut.
Why, a mere $88,888 will buy you one of the best televisions on the planet.
Samsung's latest 'show-off' product, the 70-inch F9, is the world's largest commercially available LCD TV that offers full high-definition image resolution.
(By the way, someone should tell the Koreans that 'F9' is a much-feared symbol among students here).
The F9 uses some spiffy new technology that won't be found in ordinary HDTVs for some time.
It uses LED backlighting, which improves image contrast dramatically.
You get really black blacks and white whites when you watch your DVDs or play your games.
The TV manages image brightness dynamically by controlling how different parts of the screen are lit up.
As such, Samsung claims a ridiculously high contrast ratio of 500,000:1.
Compare that to its standard 40-inch HDTVs which only offer a ratio of 5000:1.
The F9 also reduces image smearing (during fast action scenes) which is common on many LCD displays.
Like most modern HDTVs, you get a generous three HDMI ports to connect several HD devices (like game consoles, DVD players and camcorders).
You also get two subwoofers in the sound system for rocking bass notes.
Of course, you'd have to see it to believe it.
Head down to the Samsung showroom at VivoCity to check it out. I took a good look last week and came away really impressed with the excellent image quality.
I guess you can say this is one F9 you'd be proud to have on record.
